Motorcyclist Dies in Ouachita Parish Crash

Richwood – On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, shortly before 7:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on US-165 at Charleston Road.  The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old Christopher Pollard of Monroe.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2020 Kenworth tractor (semi-truck), driven by 59-year-old Ricky Moffett, was traveling south on US-165, in the left lane.  At the same time, a 2005 Suzuki GSX motorcycle, ridden by Pollard, was traveling north on US-165, in the left lane.  For reasons still under investigation, the Kenworth turned left into the path of the Suzuki.  As a result, the Suzuki struck the Kenworth.

Pollard, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Moffett was properly restrained and uninjured.  Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

Far too often, Troopers see the tragic consequences of preventable crashes.  Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle.  Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted.  Follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained.  While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2024, Troop F has investigated six fatal crashes, resulting in six deaths.
