Louisiana State Police Investigating Trooper-Involved Shooting in Orleans Parish

New Orleans – On July 16, 2022, shortly before 10:00 p.m., Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit were called to investigate a shooting incident involving a Trooper in New Orleans East.

The initial investigation revealed at approximately 9:30 p.m., Troopers conducting proactive patrols in the New Orleans East area received a complaint of reckless driving. Upon responding to the area, Troopers observed a suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 (Chef Menteur Highway) and Downman Road. As Troopers approached the vehicle on foot, the driver attempted to flee the scene and accelerated in the direction of the Troopers. This resulted in a Trooper discharging his service weapon.

After fleeing the scene, the suspect vehicle was stopped and the driver was taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries to the suspect or the responding Troopers during the incident.

Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency with FIU personnel processing the scene. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
