Louisiana State Police Arrest Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver for Narcotics

Lake Charles – On November 30, 2023, shortly before 11:00 a.m., a Trooper working commercial motor vehicle enforcement conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 west of LA Hwy 397.   The traffic stop ultimately resulted in the discovery of a large amount of cocaine and led to the arrest of 27-year-old Oscar Jasso of Mission, Texas.

A traffic stop was initiated for a compliance check on a 2011 Peterbilt (18-wheeler) that was headed east on Interstate 10.  During the course of the commercial motor vehicle inspection and the interaction with Jasso, signs of criminal behavior were detected.  A consent to search was denied and a K-9 was deployed.  After the K-9 positively alerted, a search of the 18-wheeler was conducted.  The Trooper located 20 bundles of cocaine that was found within the cab of the 18-wheeler.  The estimated street value of the cocaine is approximately $500,000.00.

Jasso was cited for several inspection violations and arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance schedule II.  He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center without incident.

In addition to proactive enforcement by Troopers and other law enforcement, the public plays an important role in identifying suspects involved in criminal or suspicious activity.  The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through an anonymous reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators.  The form can be found by visiting http://la-safe.org/ and clicking on the “Suspicious Activity” link.
