Former Trooper Arrested for Malfeasance in Office and Filing False Public Records

St. Tammany Parish – Following a Louisiana State Police investigation into two separate citizen complaints, 56-year-old Brett Dupre was taken into custody this morning on charges of Malfeasance in Office and Filing False Public Records. The investigation and charges stemmed from two separate crashes investigated by Dupre in April of 2023 in St. Tammany Parish. Dupre was assigned to Patrol duties in Troop L during the time of the incidents and had been a Trooper since 2008.

The investigation revealed that Dupre intentionally failed to properly document and investigate the crashes. As a result of Dupre’s malfeasance, the crash reports contained false information, and two suspected impaired drivers were not taken into custody. Troop L supervisors subsequently conducted a thorough re-examination of the incidents, amended the crash reports, and charged the impaired and at-fault drivers accordingly.

After consultation with the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office, LSP Investigators filed charges and booked Dupre into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on two counts of Malfeasance in Office and one count of Filing False Public Records.

At the onset of the investigation, Dupre was placed on administrative leave, and all law enforcement property was recovered pending the conclusion of the criminal and administrative investigations. While on administrative leave, Dupre retired from the department in August of 2023. This investigation remains ongoing.
