Folsom Woman Killed in St. Tammany Parish Crash

Folsom – On February 6th, 2023, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two vehicle crash on LA Hwy 25 at Hay Hollow Road in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 65-year-old Kathy Mailhes of Folsom.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Mailhes was northbound on LA Hwy 25 in a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, preparing to make a left turn onto Hay Hollow Road. At the same time, a 2017 GMC Sierra was also northbound on LA Hwy 25, directly behind the Mercury. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC struck the rear of the Mercury.

Despite Mailhes being properly restrained, she sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported to a local hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the GMC was not properly restrained and sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples will be obtained from both drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
