Falling Tree Leads to Single Vehicle Fatal Crash

Published: 03-15-2024 | Category: Troop A

Pride – Shortly before 2:00 p.m. on March 15, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 37 at Lisa Dr. (north of Stoney Point Burch Rd.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 65-year-old Vivian H. Johnson of Clinton.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Johnson was driving a 2019 Dodge Caravan northbound on LA 37. Due to weather conditions, a tree fell and impacted the top of the Caravan. As a result, the Caravan traveled off the roadway to the right and struck another tree. Johnson sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was properly restrained, and impairment is not suspected.

While not all crashes are survivable, Troopers wish to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
