Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Evangeline Parish Crash

Oakdale On December 14, 2023, shortly before 7:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 10 about half a mile west of Beaver Road. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 75-year-old Eddie Brunson (female) of Oakdale.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed Lucas Lemaire of Franklin was traveling west on LA Hwy 10 while driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. At the same time, Brunson was traveling east while driving a 2018 Ford Escape. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet crossed the centerline and struck the Ford head-on.

 

Restraint use by Lemaire is still being investigated, while Brunson was determined to be properly restrained. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. While at the hospital, Brunson succumbed to her injuries.

 

Standard toxicology samples are awaiting analysis from both drivers. This crash remains under investigation.

 

While this crash is still under investigation, safe driving is paramount for the safety of yourself and others on the roadway. Always obey speed limits and follow traffic rules to minimize the risk of crashes. Avoid distractions like texting or using your phone while driving to stay focused on the road. Lastly, never drink and drive, as impaired driving can have deadly consequences.

 

Troop I has investigated 51 fatal crashes resulting in 56 fatalities in 2023.
