Driver Killed in Tangipahoa Parish Crash

Ponchatoula – This morning, shortly before 5:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 22, near Dutch Lane, in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Karrie Brumfield of Kentwood.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by Brumfield, was westbound on LA Hwy 22. At the same time, a 2009 GMC Yukon was eastbound on LA Hwy 22. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed the centerline, traveled into the eastbound lane and struck the GMC.

Despite being properly restrained, Brumfield sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the GMC was properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. A passenger in the GMC was also properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. Both occupants of the GMC were transported to a local hospital. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
