Driver Killed after Vehicle Collides with Log Truck in Allen Parish
Mittie – On June 24, 2022, shortly after 5:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash west of the intersection of LA Hwy 26 and LA Hwy 377 in Allen Parish. The crash claimed the life of 25-year-old Andrew E. Spears of Mittie.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2001 Mack (18-wheeler) log truck, was traveling west on LA 26. For reasons still under investigation, Spears, who was traveling west in a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser, struck the rear of the log truck.

Spears, who was not properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the log truck was properly restrained and was not injured.

Toxicology samples were obtained from Spears and the driver of the log truck and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.

Troop D has investigated 12 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths in 2022.
