Desoto Parish UTV Crash Claims the Life of Stanley Teen, Speed a Suspected Factor

MansfieldOn Saturday, September 23, 2023, shortly after 4:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash involving a UTV on LA Hwy 539 at Bobcat Lane. This crash claimed the life of 17-year-old Aubrey Hubier.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Honda UTV, driven by Hubier, was traveling north on LA Hwy 539. For reasons still under investigation, Hubier failed to maintain control of the UTV, exited the roadway to the left, and struck a tree.

As a result of this crash, Hubier, who was unrestrained and not wearing a DOT approved helmet, was ejected from the UTV and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Desoto Parish Coroner’s Office. A juvenile passenger on the UTV, who was also unrestrained and not wearing a DOT approved helmet, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers would like to stress the importance of utilizing proper safety equipment such as approved helmets and seat belts when operating any off-road vehicle. Additionally, it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e., three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state.

Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of highway crashes and fatalities.

In 2023, Troop G has investigated 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 18 deaths.
