Bicyclist Injured in West Baton Rouge Parish Crash
Port Allen – Last night, shortly after 8:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating an injury crash involving a bicycle on LA Hwy 76 (Court Street) near Turner Drive in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash left a bicyclist seriously injured.

The initial investigation revealed a 2004 Honda Pilot was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 76. At the same time, a bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.  For reasons still under investigation, the Honda struck the front of the bicycle in the roadway.

At the time of the collision, the bicyclist was wearing dark clothing without a helmet, and had no lights on their bicycle.  The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.  The driver of the Honda was properly restrained and was not injured.  As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was obtained from the driver of the Honda for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind bicyclists to never assume that a motorist can see you.  Simple precautions such as wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are key to preventing crashes and avoiding injuries.  Louisiana law requires bicyclists to remain as close to the right side of the roadway as practicable and obey all traffic laws.
