Baton Rouge Woman Killed in Fatal East Baton Rouge Parish Crash

Zachary – Shortly before 11:00 am on August 21, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on US Hwy 61 south of LA Hwy 964 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 35-year-old Nichole Drake of Baton Rouge.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as 28-year-old Jeromy Green of Baton Rouge was traveling southbound on US Hwy 61 in a 2004 Infiniti G35. At the same time, Drake was traveling northbound on US Hwy 61 in a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. For reasons still under investigation, the Infiniti ran off the roadway to the left and crossed the median. After crossing the median, the Infiniti entered the northbound lane of US Hwy 61 and struck the Elantra head-on.

Drake was properly restrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Green was unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. He was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

Motorists should always be cognizant of their surroundings and obey posted traffic control signs. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.
