Biography Information

Genny May was named Deputy Superintendent, Bureau of Investigations, by newly appointed Superintendent of Louisiana State Police, Colonel Michael Edmonson, on January 17, 2008. Lieutenant Colonel May is a thirty year veteran of the Louisiana State Police, having served with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for three years prior to her employment with State Police. As Lieutenant Colonel of the Bureau of Investigations, she is responsible for the operation of the Detective, Narcotics, Insurance Fraud, Investigative Support, and Gaming Divisions, one of the largest and most diverse commands within the State Police.

Lieutenant Colonel May’s personal philosophy is to lead from the front to ensure her personnel serve Louisiana with pride and professionalism; to foster lasting and meaningful relationships with support agencies throughout the criminal justice community; to take care of her people and their families; and to always remember that she is a public servant and is indebted to the people she serves on all levels. Her primary focus areas are the Public Safety, Enabling Partnerships, and Diversity.

Prior to this appointment, Lieutenant Colonel May served over commands such as the Gaming Enforcement Division, General Gaming Section, and Operational Development Section, a Section consisting of Research and Development, Recruiting, Public Information, Grant and Budget Management, and Policy and Procedure. Lieutenant Colonel May also has extensive experience in training, investigations and patrol.

Lieutenant Colonel May is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 168th Session, and the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 09. She holds a Masters of Public Administration from Louisiana State University and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Southern University, Baton Rouge. She also holds a certification as a Louisiana Emergency Manager. In addition, she proudly serves as a Master Chief Intelligence Specialist in the United States Navy.

Lieutenant Colonel May is the recipient of numerous awards and honors from both her law enforcement and military service. Most recently, she was awarded the 2007 Louisiana Legislative Women’s Caucus Women of Excellence Award in Law and Justice. She is an active member of numerous professional and service organizations.
