Oakdale – On August 30, 2024, shortly after 4:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a single-vehicle serious injury crash involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 372 just south of Tyler Road in Allen Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 21-year-old Michael Hicks of Mexico, Missouri.
The preliminary investigation revealed Hicks was walking west across LA Hwy 372. At the same time, a 2011 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 372. For reasons still under investigation, Hicks, who was wearing dark clothing, stepped into the path of the Corolla. Despite evasive maneuvers by the driver of the Toyota, the car’s front bumper struck Hicks.
Hicks was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota was properly restrained and received no injuries.
Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers would like to remind pedestrians to walk against the flow of traffic and only cross at designated crossings such as intersections. Additionally, Troopers would like to remind pedestrians to wear bright or reflective clothing while walking in low light conditions to increase the chances of being seen by motorists.
