Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Beauregard Parish

TROOP D NEWS RELEASE

Merryville – On April 19, 2024, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash near the intersection of US Hwy 190 and Ball Park Road in Beauregard Parish. The crash claimed the life of 31-year-old James Vaughn Patterson III of Huntington, Texas.

The initial investigation revealed a 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck, driven by Patterson, was traveling west on US 190. For unknown reasons, the pickup truck crossed the centerline into the opposing lane and then traveled off the left side of the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the pickup truck traveled a short distance before striking a tree.

Despite being properly restrained, Patterson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troop D has investigated 4 fatal crashes resulting in 4 deaths in 2024.
